Welcome to Coworth Flexlands Nursery where girls and boys enter in the term of their third birthday.
Our girls and boys enjoy light, spacious classrooms filled with educational games and toys, books, dressing up clothes, craft materials and musical instruments. With specialist teachers for sport, computing, music and Forest School who teach right up throughout the school, your child is very much part of the Coworth Flexlands family. Our dedicated outdoor Nursery playground and woodland area further extend our classrooms for open-air discovery, play and Forest School.
Our Head of Early Years and Nursery Coordinator ensure a smooth transition from home to Nursery. Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to gain the foundations of mathematics, reading, writing and science.
Curriculum
The pupils mainly learn by exploring through play within structured days and activities. There will always be adult led activities each day (as well as daily phonics lessons) and each table in nursery including the 'play' table, have different activities which relate to the weekly topic/ theme.
For example, if the topic is animals, and the letter of the week is 'J', pupils may do activities such as;
- matching pictures of animals with their offspring
- working out bigger and smaller
- animal puzzles
- playing with the play farm
- sorting and measuring
- matching the number of animals to a number card and using tweezers to pick them up to work on their fine motor skills
- using different textures to make animal footprints
- writing 'J' on white boards and the interactive smartboard using playdoh and other mediums to make the letter 'J'
Additionally, there will always be a variety of activities the pupils have access to such as cars and, arts and crafts. Pupils also utilise the wonderful outdoor space a few times a day where they might set up car garages, make an obstacle course, draw on the blackboard, play in the mud kitchen or just use the different pieces of equipment. They learn independence by being responsible for putting on their own wellies and coats.
We firmly believe that education must be fun, capture imagination and promote curiosity. Experienced staff ensure our children feel secure, happy and cherished, enabling them to form a trusting relationship with their peers, their key person and their teachers. It all adds up to a start that nurtures their confidence, builds their independence and develops a strong desire for learning, setting a great foundation for the next step into our Reception class.
