Music, Performing & Creative Arts

At Coworth Flexlands, music, drama, dance, art, and design technology are taught weekly, supporting pupils’ development in literacy, numeracy, confidence, and creativity.

Music

In our Music lessons, we ensure that the children are immersed in many musical styles, both in theory and practically. Weekly Music lessons cover many different musical topics from around the world. Over their time at Coworth Flexlands, children have beginner lessons in the five main instruments categories (strings, percussion, woodwind, brass and voice). They will have the opportunity to explore ukulele, keyboard, Toots (mini flutes) and pBugles (plastic trumpet). We also have weekly choir sessions that every child takes part in.

All children take part in performances throughout the year, including Harvest, Remembrance, and Christmas events. Pupils may perform at events such as the Chobham Festival or "Voice In A Million" at Wembley.

All of these activities ensure we are enriching our students lives and inspiring their minds.

Performing Arts

Drama and dance are part of school life from the very beginning, with specialist teachers guiding children from Nursery to help them grow in creativity, communication and confidence. Each term brings the excitement of a full-scale musical production, where drama, dance and singing come together and every child has the chance to shine. Regular Performing Arts assemblies celebrate the joy of performance, showcasing ballet, street dance, musical theatre, singing and LAMDA. Beyond the school, children take part in acting and musical theatre competitions at the Woking Festival and proudly perform at community events such as the Chobham Prom, Light Up Chobham and the Chobham Carnival. Opportunities extend even further with trips and national performances, including VIAM at Wembley and opera at the Royal Festival Hall. Adding to the magic, industry professionals lead workshops that inspire and encourage our young performers, making the Performing Arts a truly vibrant and memorable part of their school journey.

Creative Art & Design Technology

Art is taught from EYFS, beginning with colour and mark-making, progressing to drawing, painting, and sculpture. Pupils study artists, culminating in a Year 6 exhibition. Art competitions and clubs extend opportunities for budding artists.

In Design Technology, pupils design, make, and evaluate creative projects like shelters, games, and textiles, developing resilience and problem-solving through hands-on learning.
