Reception, Years 1 & 2
The move to Reception is an exciting time for the children. As well as catching up with their Nursery friends after the summer holidays, they welcome in new friends who join us from other settings.
Wearing school uniform, being assigned to one of the four School Houses and playing in the ‘big’ playground all enrich everyone's feeling of belonging to the school and forming friendships across the years.
The specialist subjects taught in Nursery continue with French lessons being added to the sport, computing, music and Forest School they will have already experienced here. The teaching ethos continues to be fun, varied and stimulating as we use the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum alongside taking the children deeper in their learning in every area.
With small classes and lots of helpers we ensure that an education as individual as your child notices and develops their own special talents. Together with an optional extended day from 7:30am-6pm it all adds up to a varied and well-rounded educational experience.
Years 1 and 2 provide a rich learning environment. Our broad and varied timetable has lessons in art, design, computing, music, drama, thinking skills, Forest School and sport as well as an academic focus in English, maths and science. Together with outings, clubs, instrumental teachers and an optional extended day, it all adds up to a well rounded education that can be tailored to the individual interests and talents of your child.
A class teacher and teaching assistant take great care over the children's learning, pastoral care and social development. With small classes and specialist teachers for many subjects they have a lots of personal attention, can ask questions and satisfy their never-ending curiosity. Thirteen acres of grounds give them plenty of space and freedom to explore and play.
