Sharpening

Children’s first experiences with us are vital in determining their attitude to school and their curiosity for future learning. We understand that children enter school with a wide variation of maturity and skills and cater for their individual needs by building on experiences from home. We also take into account the fact that children learn in different ways, at different times and at different rates.

Early Years Foundation Stage
(Nursery ~ Reception)

We follow a broad and balanced programme in six areas of learning:
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication, Language and Literacy
• Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
• Knowledge and Understanding of the World
• Creative Development
• Physical Development

We provide a wide range of play experiences designed to allow the children to learn about themselves and the world around them. Classrooms are bright and full of interest to promote curiosity. A variety of self-initiated activities for exploration and investigation are available, as well as short, planned teaching sessions. We offer the foundations of numeracy, pre-reading and writing as well as specialist taught subjects - ICT, Music, PE and Drama.

At this young age it is important that children have as much access as possible to the outside and we are fortunate to have a new Early Years outdoor learning gazebo which is partially under cover so that it can be used in all weathers. Our Early Years playground is also brand new.

Key Stage 1

Children flourish in a happy, purposeful atmosphere: the aim is to enable them to develop through play and exploration of their surroundings in addition to the challenge of a wider and more demanding curriculum.

We place great emphasis on high standards of literacy and numeracy and children receive strong, individual support from both the classroom teacher and a fully qualified teaching assistant. Our educational approach is modern and yet upholds tried and traditional methods in a friendly and encouraging environment.
